Please inform your sales agents of the following changes effective November 1, 2002! Since June 1997 the Mahoning County Board of Health has required that a sewage system evaluation be conducted prior to the transfer of a home.
On August 17, 2002 the MC District Board of Health enacted changes to the county Regulation of Household Sewage Treatment Systems.
A requirement has been added to the regulation which will become effective on November 1, 2002 that a well evaluation is also mandatory prior to transfer of a home which is served by a private water well.
The Board of Health has also changed the fee schedule for the point-of-sale inspections.
The current fees of $170.00 for the septic system evaluation and $50.00 for the well evaluation will remain in effect if for some reason only one evaluation is necessary (e.g. if a home has a septic system but is connected to a "city" water system; or, if a home has a well, but is connected to a sanitary sewerage system).
However, on most properties both evaluations will be required and the Board of Health has voted to reduce the fee to $200.00 for both evaluations if they are applied for at the same time - a savings of $20.00 per home.
Applications for the Real Estate evaluation are available at the office of the District Board of Health located at 50 Westchester Drive in Austintown between 8:00 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.
