ARE YOU CONNECTING?
Dialing into the CRIS Servers

Recently, many agents were unable to connect to the CRIS server through T-lll Workstation.  Most people suspected that the trouble was with the server, but it turned out to be a telecommunication (telephone lines) problem, not the server. If you suspect that you are not connecting, here are a few troubleshooting steps you should take before calling the Help Desk.

First, check the simple things:

1 Be sure your modem is connected to the phone line.  ("Line out" on the modem to the wall phone jack.)

2 Try connecting to your ISP (Internet provider) to determine that you can indeed dial out alright.

Now, in T-lll REALTOR Workstation, you should be aware that if your first attempt to connect fails, the program assumes that you want to connect to a database on your hard drive.  Since no outside connection was detected, T-lll "defaults" to Personal Database mode.  Note that the Personal Database button is now "on."  If this is the case, then try again.  But, before attempting to dial out again, be sure to click the Main Database button, or you will never dial out!

If still no connection, then determine if Workstation is accessing the correct Dial-up configuration:

1 Click
Start | Programs | T-lll Real Estate Systems and then select T-lll Config.

2 Click the ‘Advanced” button.  Be sure that the “Server Name” is cris1.interealty.com, if not, delete and type it in.   Also, be sure that CRIS appears as the "Dial-up

entry" option.  If not, click the down arrow and select
CRIS.  Then click OK and OK again to accept the change.

3 Try connecting again.  (Note: Sometimes it is helpful to perform a re-boot, or even a full shutdown, following an unsuccessful connection.)

If still unable to connect, attempt a manual dial-up:

1 Double-click My Computer, then double-click the Dialup Networking folder.

2 Right-click the CRIS dialup icon    and select "Properties" from the menu that appears.

3 Be sure that the area code and number are correct (330 270-9493) and that option to "Use area code and Dial Properties" is checkmarked.  Be sure that  your modem appears in the "Connect using:" box.  Click OK.

4 Now, double-click the CRIS dialup icon.

5 In the "Connect To" box, the "User name" should be cris and the password demo, in lower case. To be sure, delete what is in the password field an type demo. (Note: only **** will echo on screen.)  Check "Save password."

6 The number should read 330 2709493. If area code is missing, or 1 appears before 330, click the "Dial Properties..." button.  Uncheck "Dial as long distance call".  Click "Area Code Rules..." button, checkmark option to  "Always dial the area code (10-digit dialing)"  Click OK and OK again.

7 Now click "Connect" to manually dial up the CRIS server.  When connection is made and authorized notice the "connected" icon in your system tray. (bottom right)
Should the connection not be made, wait and try again a few more times before you give up.

8 Call the Interealty Help Desk to report the fact that you are unable to connect to the CRIS server.

The Help Desk needs to be informed of problems such as these.  Interealty may then take steps to initiate "trouble orders" with the  local phone companies to check the lines, switches and routers for possible problems.  If no connection problem is reported, the Help Desk must first assume that the problem is in your system and begin troubleshooting accordingly.
